Wholesale vs retail diamond price
Wholesale is the price a trade buyer pays a supplier for a loose stone; retail is the price a consumer pays a jeweller for the same stone, usually set in a piece, with the jeweller's setting costs, margin and overheads on top. At Superior Gems, wholesale prices are in US dollars and are shown only to approved trade buyers.

What does wholesale mean here?
Wholesale prices are shown only to approved trade buyers, at their account's price tier, across natural, laboratory-grown and melee stock. Melee is priced per carat, by parcel.
Under our terms of trade, all prices are in USD and exclude GST, duties, import taxes and shipping unless stated. Prices and availability change through the day.
What is in a retail price?
A retail jeweller buys the stone at wholesale, then adds the cost of the setting and the work to set it, the shop's overheads and its margin. The retail price is what the consumer sees on the tag or the website.
The stone itself is the same either way. A certified stone has the same lab report whether it is sold loose to the trade or set in a ring.

How big is the gap between wholesale and retail?
It depends on the stone and the jeweller. We will only publish a figure that is dated, sourced and tied to a stated spec.
Why can't the public see wholesale prices here?
Superior Gems is a wholesaler. Our terms of trade say we sell only to businesses, and we do not sell to consumers, so prices are shown only to approved trade buyers. Businesses can apply for trade access; registration is free.

Is a wholesale diamond a different quality from a retail one?
No. The price differs by who buys and what is added, not by the stone. Check the lab report either way.
Are wholesale prices in Australian dollars?
No. All prices in the trade portal are in US dollars. Any AUD figure is an estimate for convenience only.
Do wholesale prices include GST?
No. Prices exclude GST, duties, import taxes and shipping unless stated.
